Audience Profiling/ My Audience
Audience profiling is essentially defining who your audience is so you can target your product to them.
Targeting your audience is very importance because in theory not everyone will be appealed by your product meaning that once you have segmented your audience you can construct marketing methods to reach you target audience.
Traditionally there are two ways to select your audience. Either demographically or psychographic segmentation.
Demographic -
When using the demographic method, you would select your audience by:
- Age
- Gender
- Nationality
- Sexuality
- Race
This means that you will segment your audience by their specific social criteria.
The way you decide a demographic is commonly using the Jicnar Scale. This will help you further identify your target audience demographically
Psychographic -
Psychographic segmentation studies consumers based on their psychological attributes. These include;
- Ideology
- How they think
- Desires
- Goals
- Lifestyle choices
- ect
This is a very good method for extreme accurate targeting and marketing.
The VAL system is best known for Psychographic segmentation.
There are also Teenage VALS which helps create a clearer more specific range for audience profiling.
Internet and social media is very important to understand, track and target audiences as social media ables us to see what people like - e.g instagram, snapchat, twitter. We can see what they listen to and what type of stuff they like doing. The internet has also been able to get faster and more accurate ways to segment audiences as there are surveys accessible to everyone with the internet, ect.
When making my own campaign I will use social media to create surveys and record what a range of people have to say. Once I have located my target audience I will promote the campaign in specific ways which will catch their attention. Social media will help me market my campaign as I am able to reach to a wider audience that if I spoke to people individually.
Based from my own research I have roughly allocated my target audience. As "Disco Barbie" is in the pop genre I will focus on the younger audience, specifically, 15-17 year old girls. This is because, from the music video, the solo artist is shown as beautiful and confident which will be apart of her star image. Girls either want to act like her or want to be friends with her. We also have "Ricky" in our video, for younger girls, typically they would like that in music videos.
As a result of this in my music campaign I would use bright vivid colours as it appeals to young people and it help make the campaign stand out and reach peoples attention. I would also have a lot of pictures of the Solo artist as she is the main attraction and would further entice the targeted audience. Because of generation thrives on social media I would include many links to other social media platforms to further promote the solo pop artist.
