Why digipacks are still used and what's on them
A digipak is the album artwork cover that artists have when releasing their albums.
Even though most people do not buy CDs anymore as now there are streaming softwares like spotify and Apple music where you can listen to music for free, Digipacks are still very important to the artist/band. When you listen to a song on spotify or on Apple Music it is always the digipak cover that is shown.
It helps sell the artist and creates the 'centerpiece' of the music campaign for the album. And is the artwork that promotes their album and artistry on social media platforms.
Digipacks are designed to the genre of music that you are promoting, if it is a pop album, then you will have the artist or band on the front cover as they are promoting themselves and their star image, if it is an alternative album might have more visuals and might not have a person on the cover.
When creating an album there are some essentials that you need to include on the digipack.
On the front cover you need the name of the album, the name of the artist/band (very important) and a parental advisory sign if there are any swearing in it.
On the back cover of the digipak you need to include the track list, the barcode, the studio logo and legal information
When making my digipack I need to keep in mind who is my artists target audience, what genre are we promoting and making sure I use the genre conventions for a pop album.
The aim for my digipak design is to promote the solo artist Skylar as she is a synthetic pop artist. To do this I will follow the conventions of the genre that I have researched earlier and putting her on the front cover.
